Mindset for IELTS - Level 1 (Unit 07: Fame And The Media)

In this type of task you get a list of people, places or things and a list of sentences. You need to match each sentence with a person/place/thing.

In this task type the questions will not be in the same order as the passage but the options e.g. people/ places will be in text order. You will need to 'jump around' the passage a bit rather than reading it from beginning to end.

Only use information from the passage to answer the question, even if you think some information in the passage is incorrect.

Read the instructions and statements (1-6) and the list of websites (A-E). Then follow the steps in the box below and complete the task.

Choose the correct website (A-E) for each statement. You may choose any website more than once.

1. You want to be rich and become famous.

2. You want to take photographs as a career.

3. You want people to know you but don't care about money.

4. You want to make money but not be famous.

5. You can post a new film daily.

6. You want to show people how to do something.

A. YouTube

B. Facebook

C. Twitter

D. Instagram

E. your own blog

  • Scan the text for the websites A to E.
  • Find the key words in sentences 1 to 6.
  • Find every time 'YouTube' is mentioned in the passage. Read all the information about it.
  • Which of sentences 1 to 6 refers to YouTube/Facebook/Twitter/Instagram?
Creating your own blog is possibly the best way to become internet famous and make money, through advertising, especially once you have become known on one of the sites above. You need to be aware of the topics and issues that are 'trending' (that are popular right now) and post about those ideas. Learn to create 'vines' (a series of short extracts from videos put together in a creative way) and become an expert on photo editing. With these few easily learnt skills and some imagination, you can achieve the fame you've always dreamed of - online at least.
