When you meet a new word, you can check the word stress in a good dictionary (e.g. Cambridge Learner’s Dictionary). Most dictionaries use
the symbol in front of the main stressed syllable, and the symbol ˌ to show any secondary stress (usually in longer words), e.g. /ˌʌnɪm'plɔɪmənt/.
Choose four of the longest words in the list in 4a and use your dictionary to check if there is any secondary stress. |
